Why do I need to remove hair before a Philips Lumea treatment?

Published on 18 October 2024

Waxing, shaving or epilating before using your Lumea prevents hairs from being burnt during the treatment and exposes the hair roots to the flashes.

Perform a treatment before new hair is visible on your skin. If you choose to wax, wait 24 hours before you use Lumea.

Removing hair from skin before using Philips Lumea

How does Philips Lumea work?

Philips Lumea uses IPL technology, which stands for Intense Pulsed Light. IPL releases gentle pulses of light that are absorbed by the roots of your hair. These pulses of light cause the hair follicles to go into a resting phase. The hair sheds naturally, and growth is reduced for a certain number of months.

Hair does not grow continuously, it grows in cycles. Not all the hairs in one area are growing at the same time. Since IPL is only effective on hair that is actively growing, it is important to repeat treatments as indicated in your treatment schedule.

What happens if I don’t remove hair before using my Philips Lumea?

If you use Lumea while you still have hair on your skin, the light from your Lumea may burn them. This can result in an unpleasant smell, damage to your Lumea, or skin burns.

I don’t have much hair on my skin, do I have to remove it?

Yes, always remove any visible hair before each treatment.
