Is the flashing light of my Philips Lumea safe for my eyes?

Published on 15 July 2025

To avoid eye damage, do not use Lumea close to or on the eye, eyelid or eyebrow. Use Lumea only below the cheekbones, which includes the area between your upper lip and nose (note: never use the device on male facial hair).

To avoid eye discomfort, always use Lumea in a well-lit room. Your eyes are more sensitive to stray light in darker conditions.

Avoid exposing eyes to emitted light at all times. If you experience unexpected issues or have concerns about using your Lumea, please contact Philips via www.philips.com/contact.

Should I wear protective eyewear while using Philips Lumea?

No. Lumea IPL devices contain a skin contact sensor that prevents the device from flashing when it isn’t in complete contact with your skin. This feature is designed to limit the risk of unintentionally flashing your eyes or those of anybody nearby.
