How do I clean and sterilize Philips Avent bottles and nipples?

Published on 09 January 2024
Always clean and sterilize all parts from your Philips Avent bottle that come into contact with milk after each use. You can clean all parts by washing them manually or in a dishwasher. Sterilize the bottle parts by boiling them for 5 minutes or sterilize them in a Philips Avent sterilizer. Follow the instructions below.

Instructions to clean your Philips Avent bottle and nipple

Manual cleaning
  1. Disassemble the bottle, screw ring, AirFree vent insert (if applicable) and the nipple.
  2. Wash all parts in a clean bowl with a soft brush (only use a mild washing soap).
  3. Remove any food residues and rinse thoroughly.
Using your dishwasher
  1. Disassemble the bottle, screw ring, AirFree vent insert (if applicable) and the nipple.
  2. Place all parts on the top rack of your dishwasher (only use a mild washing soap or tablet).
Note: Avoid washcloths, (abrasive) sponges, and brushes with bristles that may tear the silicone or could lead the ink to come off the bottle. We advise you to use the Philips Avent bottle and nipple brush.

Always make sure that you thoroughly clean your bottles before sterilizing.

Sterilizing by boiling
  1. Disassemble the bottle, screw ring, AirFree vent insert (if applicable) and the nipple.
  2. Put the parts in a household pot and pour plenty of cold or lukewarm water into it. Do not put a cold GLASS bottle into hot water to avoid damage.
  3. Bring the water to boil.
  4. Boil for 5 minutes. Make sure that the parts do not touch the side of the pot. This prevents deformation and damage.
  5. After sterilizing, wait for the parts to cool down.

Sterilizing in a Philips Avent sterilizer
  1. Disassemble the bottle, screw ring, AirFree vent insert (if applicable) and the nipple.
  2. Sterilize all parts by following the instructions in the user manual of the sterilizer.
  3. Make sure that the parts do not touch each other. This prevents deformation and damage.
  4. Do not sterilize nipples too long, as this can weaken the nipple.
  5. After sterilizing, wait for the parts to cool down.
