Coffee is not coming out of my Philips Baristina Espresso Machine

Published on 16 March 2026
If your Philips Baristina Espresso Machine is not dispensing coffee, find below the possible causes and ways you could solve the issue.

1.    If the recipe button is blinking slowly after a drink selection, it means that the drink is selected and the portafilter handle can be moved to the right to start grinding. The Espresso or Lungo button will also blink while brewing.
2.    If the recipe button keeps blinking slowly after the portafilter is moved to the right and the machine does not start grinding, it might mean that the portafilter was not inserted completely while moving it to the right. Give the portafilter handle a little push to connect it well into the machine. The machine will start to grind the beans. Always make sure you insert the portafilter into the machine fully, until you hear a click.

1.    If the recipe button is blinking fast while brewing coffee, it means the water container has emptied. In this case, refill the water container, place it back into the machine, and then press the button that is blinking quickly to continue the brewing process.
2.    If the recipe button is blinking fast after refilling or placing back the water container, it means that the water container is not correctly in place. Make sure you push the water container into the housing of the machine until it clicks into place. Then press the fast-blinking drink button to start or continue the brewing process.
3.    If the recipe button is blinking fast after the portafilter is automatically moved back it means that the portafilter is out of place. Give the portafilter a little push and the machine will start to brew coffee.
4.    If the recipe button is still blinking fast during or after grinding, and the handle is still in the grind position, it means that the water container was removed from the machine during grinding or was not placed back correctly. Make sure you place back the water container and push it into the housing of the machine until it clicks into place. The machine continues automatically the process.

The coffee machine has a safety feature that prevents it from brewing a new coffee if there is an old coffee puck still in the portafilter. To start a new brew, remove the portafilter and empty it. Rinse it if necessary and then place it back into the machine. Always ensure that the portafilter is completely empty before starting a new brew.

The portafilter might be stuck in the grinding position. To fix this, try gently moving the portafilter back to its starting position.
If the previous coffee puck has not been completely removed from the portafilter before starting the next coffee ground cycle, it can lead to overfilling and blockages in the portafilter. To prevent this, remove the portafilter and clean it thoroughly, making sure that all the ground coffee has been flushed out.

If the machine is not brewing coffee and instead leaks around the portafilter, then the portafilter may not have been emptied before starting a new brew.
Always empty the portafilter before brewing another coffee and ensure that there is no coffee ground remaining in it.
