My Philips Baristina Espresso Machine is leaking

Published on 16 March 2026

If your Philips Baristina Espresso Machine is leaking, learn about the possible causes and solutions below.

It is normal to have some coffee or water left in the portafilter after cleaning or emptying it. However, if you notice that the portafilter is leaking more than usual, it means it was not emptied before making another coffee. To prevent this, empty the portafilter after each brew, rinse it, and then shake off any excess water to avoid any leakage.

If you find clear water under or on the back of the machine:
•    The water container may have been overfilled, and excess water was spilled when placing it back into the machine.
•    Make sure to place the water container before plugging on the mains. To catch the internal water coming out of the expansion outlet

If water is leaking around the portafilter during brewing, it means that the portafilter was not emptied before starting a new brew. Always empty the portafilter before you start a new brew and make sure there is no ground coffee remaining in the portafilter before you start the grinding and brewing process.

It is normal to have some coffee or water left in the portafilter after emptying & cleaning it. However, if the portafilter appears to leak more than what would typically be expected, this usually indicates that excess water was not fully shaken off after the rinsing process. Ensuring that the portafilter is thoroughly shaken to remove remaining water after cleaning will significantly reduce this occurrence.
However if you tried the solutions above but you still notice issues like:
•    Water leaking from portafilter
•    Water remaining on top of the coffee puck
•    While brewing, coffee comes out in drops instead than a normal constant flow
•    Low coffee volume in the cup
•    Coffee is weak/watery
•    The grinder is running very shortly
•    Little amount of coffee is grounded
