We bought this iron in January 2013 and until yesterday it has been an excellent purchase. The iron performs extremely well and I have never had any issue with it. The weight is just about right as well. Unfortunately yesterday the handle just shattered and although I have managed to tape it up I am not confident enough to keep using it in this state. I have purchased a new one today so hope this lasts a lot longer.

Chose this iron in a hurry as my old one (not a Philips) had broken just before Christmas. Has turned out to be a really good buy and an improvement on my last one. Gives shirts a professional looking finish - I actually quite enjoy ironing with it which must be good! Only criticism is that, as another reviewer mentioned, it is easy to catch the dial & accidentally adjust the setting.

This is a good quality steam iron with an easy glide sole plate. Steam control is good and easly adjustable while using the iron. The automatic switch off is in my mind the most important feature Adusting the temperature is not a problem but the rotary control can be easly caught and moved with the fingers when using the iron.

The first iron I ordered was leaking after a couple of months so replacement needed to be sent. New product was sprinkling water on garments during ironing which I sorted by inserting toothpick which is not ideal but sorted the issue. Now less than 2 years later, the iron has stopped working during using it. I have to say that as long as product is registered you get replacement but it is still inconvenient. Next time I will try a different brand.

I purchased the previous model GC4720 which this one superceded. I have had this item for 18 months and has now decided not to work. I plug it in i get a flashing red light then it goes off. As I was looking for a product with very similar features I decided to look at this one but looking at one of the reviews this model has the same problem, may this is something Philips should look into as the price you are paying for this iron is not cheap! Like that reviewer the receipt has decided to detach itself from the paperwork that came with the iron, but i would have thought as the GC4720 only came out in 2009 if you had taken in back to the retailer they should be able to find out it wouldve been under two years old without a receipt.
